Abigail Selby

Finifugal

Writing is to live

with ghosts.

Ghosts of yourself, people you’ve been, or will become; those you never know

beyond intimately and insufferably existing between each breath of your lungs.

Ghosts you long for, despair against, thrash under mossy plains to forget;

Or sit alongside tombstones with bated breath.

Ghosts are constantly parading around me: Both feral,

and condemning me to passion.  For the sake of nothing but their sinew

Which I breathe in, and asphyxiate.

I feel an innate disposition with myself;

that I may only write according to my own

Undoing and Eradication.

Writing your death as it happens: how silly a motion.
