Anne Jachinowicz
The Car Mindset
The frame looks good
The exterior not too rusted
The interior is glossy as glass
The radio works with a little twist of the knob The ride seems smooth as a banana
Your bones seem unscathed
Your body uninjured
Your head flashes thoughts
You speak with little coaching
You seem as happy as an emaciated teddy bear
The frame faults
The exterior deteriorates
The interior shows its use
The radio knob falls off in your hand The ride cracks like old paint
You’re lying there
You seem not at peace
You have no thoughts left
You feel like no one is listening You are resilient as snakeskin
Unlike a car there are people to listen
There is still a tomorrow to come and go
The burdens are not to be carried alone
They are to be conquered by people there to help you If you need help reach out
call 1-800-273-8255
You are not alone.
At a cafe I see a man and woman,
Hugging and kissing subtly.
Looking down at my drink of scotch or brandy, I began to think in deep thought,
“Will that loveliness and bliss be for me?” Later on that sweet, sunray day,
Two itty-bitty kids came about my way, Pitter-Patter,
Pitter-Patter,
Their tiny shoes would laugh and sing,
As their wearers gave me a wave and grin.
As I continue my dear stroll,
My solemn mind was on a simple old roll, “Will that loveliness and bliss be for me?
Just imagine..One or two maybe.”
That night, I went to a nice ball,
It was sort of fun, cute and all.
Yet, I-I cannot help but hear,
That ringing in my stupid-stupid ear.
It has always been like this, I tell you...
Ever since that “Great” War.
My, what good, pleasant times they were; Thick red blood in your filthy palms,
While your buddy loses a foot,
Or was it his leg? I can’t recall.
The dirt and grime under my nails,
And my backside against the trench walls.
Oh look! Here comes Miss. Daisy!
The white-feather witch you drove me crazy!
I see her husband with her,
He was stationed in France.
While I was placed in Germany,
Where young, hopeful Joseph laid dying.
“Coward!”
“Dirty coward!”
“Are you man or beast!”
“You’re nothing to say the least!”
Oh, Miss. Daisy,
How I loathe you...
Oh, you false idols in your thrones,
How I still want to kill you.
Hypocrites!
Hypocrites!
Cowards, fools and villains!
You’re no gods,
You’re all felons!
I take a gulp of red wine,
And see the bride and groom.
May their love and joys be forever in bloom. For me, life’s gone barren.
No map in sight.
I’m lost forever.
